Background and justification:
Awareness of the potential energy saving benefits of windows is growing
in the UK but is not as advanced as in other countries such as the USA,
Canada and Australia. Despite the introduction of European standrads
(CEN) for thermal calculation methods there is still a proliferation of
calculation methods in the UK and no single way to compare fenestration
products.
Objectives:
To establish an energy rating scheme for domestic windows(and doors)
for the UK market.
Activities:
-
Compare available software and determine the most suitable basis for comparison
in the UK market
-
Establish a framework for operating the BFRC
-
Develop a business plan for the BFRC and promote its activities
Outputs:
'BFRC Operation and quality control - a proposal for formal structures
and certification'
