Building Safety Act

GATEWAY 2

CWCT and The Society of Façade Engineering (SFE) are collaborating to try and provide façade-specific guidance related to the new building safety regime.

For all higher risk buildings, the new ‘Gateway’ process introduced by the Building Safety Act must be followed.  Gateway 2 requires demonstration that the design of the building, including the façade, meets the necessary regulations and safety standards, prior to commencing construction.

In time, the ambition is to be able to provide specific guidance on the level of facade detail that should be included in a Gateway 2 application.  This is challenging however, and we recognise the need to provide guidance more quickly.

We are therefore collating façade-specific reasons why Gateway 2 applications have failed and will publish these so that they can act as a ‘check list’ for anyone making a subsequent application.  We think this could provide a really useful resource to help people better understand what the Regulator is looking for.

In order for this to be successful, we need your help! We need people to share information with us, and it is in everyone's interest to share their experiences so that we can all learn from them so that more Gateway 2 applications are successful in the future.

We really hope that people will engage with this.  It is in everyone’s interest to share their experiences so that we can all learn from them so that more Gateway 2 applications are successful in the future.
